Our next stop was central Sri Lanka and
the misty hills of ‘Nurelia’ or Nuwara Eliya. We ended up staying at a terrible
hotel, but spent a fabulous day at the Tea Factory.
When this tea factory was built on the Hethersett
Plantation it was regarded, as a
remarkable work of engineering. It was eventually closed down in 1973 and beautifully
restored and transformed into a hotel in 1992
by the talented architect Nihal Bodhinayake. Stay here for sure, but be sure to
book well in advance!
Nurelia is truly beautiful, a sea of
green with endless tea plantations, fresh air and blue skies.
