Light is the origin of all being.
Light gives, with each moment, new form to being
and new interrelationships
to things,and architecture condenses light
to it's most concise being. The creation of
space in architecture is simply the
condensation and purification
of the power of light.

Tadao Ando is the only architect to have won all four of architecture's most prestigous prizes: the Pritzker, Carlsberg, Praemium Imperiale, and Kyoto Prize. He's best known for his cast-in-place concrete works, and for design that conforms to the landscape, rather than the other way around. His work is also infused with a Japanese sensibilty that embraces spareness, and minimalism.
